1997 was the year where the business world really got into the email world!
Outlook 97 was released in connection with Office 97 package:
When Office 97, and hence Outlook, was released something finally happened for real. Exchange 4.0 had just been released in 1996. So now there was a package for businesses where a real mail server and a mail client could be installed and used in a business environment.
The best thing about it all was that Outlook 97 supported three email formats which were: plain text, HTML and the quirky rich text format. The rich text format should never really have found its way into emails at all, but it did.
Bonus info: The Compact Disc-Re-Writable (CD-RW) was released in 1997!
